Toward CO2 Stabilization: Issues, Strategies, and Consequence
SCOPE/GCP Rapid Assessment Project

Christopher B. Field (USA), Michael Raupach (Australia)

This SCOPE/GCP (Global Carbon Project) Rapid Assessment Project on the Carbon Cycle was a synthesis of interdisciplinary understanding and a platform for enabling the next generation of interdisciplinary advances. It was jointly developed by SCOPE and the Global Carbon Project (GCP), itself a joint activity of the IGBP, IHDP, and WCRP.

At a week-long meeting held in February 2003 in Ubatuba, Brazil, experts addressed a wide range of topics necessary to establish a common foundation for all aspects of carbon cycle science.

The resulting synthesis volume, SCOPE 62, The Global Carbon Cycle: Integrating Humans, Climate, and the Natural World, addresses one of the central issues of our time: the scientific complexities, and the environmental and social implications of human-induced massive alteration of the carbon cycle. It also includes policy options for managing the carbon cycle.
